This is a documentary that I am currently working on with Dana Colihan about the Israeli and Palestinian Conflict.  In America we often only get one side of the story.  Almost all of the main stream media that we receive is pro-Israeli, it is rare to come across anything that is actually pro-Palestinian.  The Palestinians are often portrayed as terrorists or as a sub-human group of  people.  Society refuses to look past the surface of the Palestinian people as whole, they don’t realize that the Palestinians are just like us, they go to school, play sports and watch tv, but yet we see them as terrorists.  Perhaps because when you look at pictures of their living conditions all you see is destruction and decay.  But whose fault is that.  The Palestinians try to rebuild, but the Israeli government come and destroy whatever they try to build.  They can never reach a foothold too launch a political movement to show people who they are.  They cannot live as a free people because of the constant harrassment by soldiers, the checkpoints everywhere, and the fact that they always have to live in fear of what might happen to them.

Many people argue that it is the Israeli’s land because God gave it to them, or it is the Palestinian’s land, because God gave it to them.  All of this is fine and dandy, but as you can tell that doesn’t actually get us anywhere in a quest for a solution.  So why can’t we take what we all learned in Kindergarten and learn how to suck it up and share.  Israeli’s often say that they were given this land by the U.N. because after World War II they needed a place to call home.  What is the U.N., well the United Nations of course, they shouldn’t be a biased group that only takes one side into consideration, but yet a U.S. representative said that they wouldn’t take into consideration any bill that was pro-Palestinian.  There have been 65 U.N. resolutions, none of those such resolutions were pro-Palestinian  .Obviously there is a problem here.  The Israeli’s say they need Israel because during WWII six million Jews were murdered, so of course they need a place to call home.  So what do you do, well you kick out whoever was living their at the moment and take the land for your own.  Many people think that because of the many years of pain and suffering that the Jewish people have went through that they are scared and are lashing out to make sure that the Holocaust doesn’t happen again.  What the Israeli’s don’t understand is that they are sinking down to a really low level.  They are not allowing the Palestinians to live there lives, much like how Hitler put the Jews into the Ghettos.  The Palestinians were not the people killing the Jews, the Nazi’s were the killers.  The Palestinians are just suffering because of the insecurities of the Jewish people.  Something has to change.

In this documentary we are trying to figure out what American’s can do to help resolve the conflict.  One of these such things is awareness.  People never get both sides of the story, so tell people you know about both sides of the conflict.  You need to contact your representatives in Washington and contact the United States United Nations representatives, and tell them what you think.  But most importantly educate yourself and know the facts.  One great website for this is ifamericansknew.org.
